Harp of the People"By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. We hung our lyres ( kinnor) upon the willow trees…" Psalm 137 And so began a journey into a dark exile during which we wandered for 2000 years in places of sorrow and suffering… Yet with all the pain and bitter tears experienced through that time, we never stopped yearning for our kinnor hung so long ago upon the willow trees of Babylon. Sixty years ago this coming spring, miraculously, we sprang to life again as a nation, a people, with a destiny and a purpose. Slowly a culture began to be formed around the 'dry bones', a people rising up from the ashes to life, once more. We re-built cities, created art, dance and textiles, much of it ethnic and connected to our glorious past, but the music was always played on 'borrowed' instruments of other cultures. Violins, guitars, pianos, etc. all make beautiful music, but the harps of Israel alone are meant to touch the soul in deep ways no other instrument ever can. 25 years ago we built the first harp ever to be built of its kind in 2000 years, a Nevel/Atara, followed a few years later by its counterpart, the Kinnor David. The information for them being based on archeological evidence, Biblical scriptures and Talmudic descriptions. And now we have added a new member to the family. A new type of Kinnor, brother to our other Kinnor David, its designs also based on a different coin of the Bar Kochva period ( 2000 years ago), that shows another of the Kinnorot that was most likely used in the Temple.
We call this one 'the People's Kinnor". Easy to play, with an amazingly strong and beautiful tone and resonance, it is also our most affordable harp to date. Together with its tuning key, a set of extra strings and a carrying case, this harp can travel all over the world with you, on boats, planes, trains, by donkey, or even your own two feet! It can also feel just as peaceful and contentful to be sitting by a cozy fire in your own home. It is available in different wood choices, every one a winner in sound and beauty. Every harp comes inlayed with two Eilat stones ( the turquoise stone of Israel). We are very proud to present our newest 'baby', Elijah's harp. Check it out and see if you don't agree. .
